Music discussion
So, with my group we discussed about our music choice. We choose a variety of different songs that correlate to the genre or idea of our film. To start off with the song ''I Can't Breathe" by H.E.R. she wrote in response to the recent spate of police killings of unarmed black citizens and the swell of protests against police brutality and systemic racism. The meaning of this song really correlates with our movie because we are showing the same thing H.E.R is talking about. As she is highlighting what's going on with the world. With our film we our trying to show that also but fighting the justice. Next is "Alright" by Kendrick Lamar. In this song Kendrick Lamar talks about the current system of black people getting shot, but as Kendrick is rapping, he is still giving black people courage by telling them that during this time as black people we are going to be alright and change the world. Next is" the hate you give" by bobby sessions. This song talks about black people being incriminated for no reason and how they need to be protected and freed from all the madness that's going on with. Next is "bigger than Black and white" by lil baby. This song was made because of the frustration of lil baby seeing/hearing black people getting killed for no reason and how other family members is getting hurt terrible because of the system. Baby always stresses that its "Bigger then black and white" and expresses how he doesn't see color when judging a person, he stresses how he determines people from their heart. Baby also stresses that the system is so messed up where police departments are training to shoot black man. He isn't saying this as it is fact, he is saying that's what it feels like right now and it needs to change. Next song is "stay woke" by meek mill. Meek mill rants on how black peoples promising futures are getting torn down or being taken away by something they didnt do. Meek mill is always stressing that you have to notice where you're at and you need to be "Woke" to the problems. Next song is "This is America" by Childish Gambino. Throughout the song "This is America," Childish Gambino highlights America's issues with materialism, racism, and violence. The ad libs that Gambino adopts at the beginning of the song cheerfully sings "We just want the money" and "Money just for you." showing that America is about materials. Then changes the ad libs with "black man, Black man" then a bullet gets shot indicated when the black man came, they just shot without any questions. We discuss how this would fit and the message all these songs brought now we are emailing them to see if we can get permission to use the song. Now we wait.
